These 10 writing activities combine creative and divergent thinking strategies with writing skills. The activities correlate with the Common Core Standards for Middle School Students by applying a wide range of writing strategies and using different writing process elements appropriately to communicate with different audiences for a variety of purposes. Emphasis is on writing that is focused, organized, well developed, unique, and demonstrates a good command of conventions.

Each unit Includes standards, teacher preparation, components of the type of writing, resources, sample writing so your students will understand what their end products might look like, and rubrics for each product.

Compositions include persuasive essays, biography, expository writing, poetry, narratives, autobiographies, news articles, and mysteries.
