Teacher Study Groups
What is a teacher study group? It is a group of teachers that meet regularly to discuss new strategies and skills for implementation in the classroom. Many of these professional learning communities meet monthly to identify common professional development needs and propose workshops, courses, and other activities to meet those needs. It is a great setting to provide support and mentoring for new teachers.
These study groups can be composed of teachers from all content areas as well as all grades. The more diverse, the more there is to learn. Teachers have very little time for reflection, experimentation, and communication with other teachers on education topics. Teacher study groups provide that time.
