Suppose Johnny Tremain and Christopher Reeve could meet. What advice would Reeve give Johnny (who feels his life is over because of his injured hand?)

Suppose Charlotte lived on Paul Thompson's pig farm where the golfers next door don't like the country music Mr. Thompson plays to keep his pigs happy. In fact, the golfers have sued Mr. Thompson to stop the music. If you were the judge hearing the case, what would you do?

How good would you be at prescribing treatment for diseases in the Middle Ages? Would you be as adept as Alyce, The Midwife's Apprentice? Take a quiz and see.

All of these activities and more make possible the connecting of real people and real worlds with the world of literature. Extend the world of fine children's literature through the use of selected Internet sites chosen by Nancy Polette.

Research projects are suggested allowing the student to show an understanding of the material in creative ways. 25 Newbery Winners/Honor books are highlighted in addition to 4 Picture Books. The Black Pearl, Bridge to Terabithia, Charlotte's Web, Dear Mr. Henshaw, Family Under the Bridge, The Giver, Hatchet, Holes, Island of the Blue Dolphins, Johnny Tremain, Kneeknock Rise, Lily's Crossing and more.
