Solving Word Problems and Readers’ Theatre

by Pieces of Learning Staff Development Presenter Nancy Polette and Joan Ebbesmeyer

This activity book contains 25 fill-in-the-blank play scripts that provide practice in numerical operations, measurement, data analysis, and problem-solving. The goal of the book is to provide problem-solving opportunities through the acting out of famous fables and Greek myths. Approximately half of the plays focus on addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. The remaining plays combine those operations with other mathematical topics such as mean and median. The stories include Cinderella, The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse, Odysseus and the Cyclops, and Daedalus the Bird Man. Each page has space for performing calculations; solutions are provided at the end of the text.
